White Mountains Inn with Incredible Views
The Sunset Hill House - A historic inn complete with incredible mountain views and home to New Hampshire’s oldest 9-hole golf course.
Location:
The Sunset Hill House is the perfect home base for an adventure to New Hampshire’s White Mountain's region! You’ll find this historic inn located down a quiet picturesque road in the beautiful town of Sugar Hill. The town is a popular destination when the lupine are in bloom in early June. And if you stay here, you won’t have to travel far to find these beautiful flowers blooming as there is a field of them directly across the street from the property.
The Inn is also located just minutes from one of the best local breakfast spots in New England - the legendary Polly’s Pancake Parlor. This family owned business makes just about everything from scratch and it definitely shows. I recommend the Kathie’s Combo,” featuring pancakes, eggs, home fries, and toast. Be sure to also snap a photo with Trot Trot, the cutest little red horse sitting outside the front door.
You’ll find lots of other popular destinations close by too:
~ 15 minutes to Main Street in Littleton, NH - popular spots include Schilling Beer Co, Chutters Candy, the Pollyanna Statue, and the Riverwalk Covered Bridge.
~ 15 minutes to trailhead for the popular Artists Bluff Hike - this hike provides gorgeous views of Echo Lake.
~ 20 minutes to the Flume Gorge - a boardwalk trail takes you through a unique natural gorge. You'll also see multiple waterfalls and two covered bridges.
~15 minutes to Bethlehem, NH - stop here for Super Secret Ice Cream and Rek-Lis Brewing Company.

Checking-in
Guests are able to check-in online in advance of arriving at the inn which makes the check-in process a breeze. You’ll be provided with a unique code that works as your key to unlock your room. Check-in is also available at the front desk when you arrive.
Layout and features
The inn itself was originally built in 1880 as an annex to a grand hotel that once housed 350 guests. While the grand hotel is no longer standing, the Sunset Hill House continues the tradition of welcoming guests to this beautiful part of New Hampshire. You’ll find lots of historic charm here paired with modern details, and of course lots of windows to take in the views of the mountains.
On the first floor you will find several common rooms, including one with a pool table and games. There is also an on-site restaraunt that offers an evening selection of burgers and bites, as well as, a full bar serving up cocktails. There is also a self-service station which is always available on the first floor, providing a selection of coffee, tea, hot chocolate and water for guests to enjoy.
Outside, you'll find beautiful walking trails off the back of the property, blooming flowers in the spring and summer, and a pool that's open seasonally.
The Guest Rooms:
The inn features 28 unique guest rooms, including pet-friendly options. You’ll also find a variety of room sizes here including standard rooms, bunk bed rooms, and suites.
I stayed in one of the suites which was huge! I had a full bedroom, bathroom with jacuzzi tub, full living room, and a kitchen area complete with a sink, fridge and microwave.
And my absolute favorite feature of the room - a private walk-out balcony complete with amazing views of the mountains! It was the perfect spot to relax with a glass of wine and a good book after a day of adventures.
Love to golf?
Don’t miss the on-site 9-hole course which happens to be the oldest golf course in New Hampshire!
