A Perfect Getaway to Vermont’s Mad River Valley

The Pitcher Inn - A luxury boutique hotel featuring unique rooms, the most amazing farm to table dining, and a serene outdoor garden retreat along a relaxing brook. Located minutes away from covered bridges, scenic hikes, and an incredible swimming hole. Just across the street from a country store that has the best grilled cheese.

Warren, Vermont

If you’re looking for the perfect spot for a Vermont getaway, the Pitcher Inn is it! This beautiful inn is located in the heart of Warren in Vermont’s Mad River Valley, named for the Mad River which flows through the region. Warren’s central location in Vermont makes this spot an ideal home base for a Vermont getaway or extended roadtrip. There is so much to do in the area year round and would be an absolute perfect fall foliage destination.

The Pitcher Inn is located:

  • < 40 minutes from Montpelier (the state’s capital)

  • ~ 45 minutes from Stowe, VT

  • ~ 1 hour from Burlington, VT

  • just over an hour to Woodstock, VT

And there is so much to do just minutes from the inn too. A few must visit spots include:

  • A visit to the historic Warren Covered Bridge, which is just a short walk from the inn.

  • Lunch at the Warren Store, which is located directly across from the inn. The sandwiches are amazing and you will also find lots of baked goods, everyday provisions, and locally crafted items.

  • A dip at Warren Falls located just a few minutes away by car. This is the ultimate Vermont swimming hole.

  • You will also find beautiful hikes nearby, two ski resorts, and lots more just a short drive away. My full itinerary for the Mad River Valley is coming soon and will be linked here once available.

Pitcher Inn

From the moment you walk through the front door you feel like you’re home. The incredible warm welcome and hospitality from the staff at the Pitcher Inn truly made our stay the absolute best.

This luxury boutique inn offers 12 individually decorated guest rooms, including options that are family friendly and pet friendly. The first floor of the inn features a cozy living room space and the inn’s farm to table restaurant, 275 Main, which serves up an amazing multi-course dinner. This is also where the most delicious breakfast is served, which is included with your stay.

Off of the main floor you will find a beautiful covered porch to relax under, which looks out to Main Street. Off the back of the property, you’ll find the most amazing serene garden space, which overlooks a relaxing babbling brook.

The Serene Outdoor Garden Space

This is easily my favorite spot across the inn’s property. This space offers a serene retreat as you relax by the babbling brook. It’s the perfect place to gather with friends or enjoy some quiet time reading. We also loved enjoying our lunch here at a cafe table right along the river.

Our Room

Each of the guest rooms at the Pitcher Inn is uniquely designed. We stayed in the Lodge Room which had the most unique details I have ever seen in a room! The Lodge room was designed by David Sellers, a local architect from Warren and the inn’s website notes that the design was created “to evoke the foundation of Vermont’s social structure when Masons, Elks, Odd Fellows, Granges, and other organizations taught the values and ethics of Vermonters for centuries.” The room is decked out with lots of decor unique to that theme.

In the center of the room is a beautifully designed king size wooden bed complete with two antique eagles positioned on the bed posts. The fireplace mantle was incredible and made of solid slate slabs. The starry night painted ceiling and incredible lighting in the room completed the experience.

The bathroom featured perhaps the largest shower I have ever seen. It included double rainfall shower heads along with a jetted tub and options for steam as well. I also loved the natural luxury bath products provided by the inn.

Breakfast

A full breakfast is included with your stay and it is not to be missed. You can opt for a table inside the cozy bright dining space or enjoy a seat outside on the covered terrace, overlooking the gardens.

Your breakfast starts with the most delicious buttery croissants served alongside homemade butter and jam. For your main course, you’ll have the option to choose from a list of daily specials including both savory and sweet options. I went with a classic option of scrambled eggs, toast, and potatoes. This breakfast however was anything but classic - the eggs were cooked to perfection and our sever even added local cheese to the top of the eggs for me. In addition, they were super accommodating to my dietary restrictions and offered to swap out the breakfast meat for fresh fruit.

The Artwork

One of the most beautiful features of the inn is the unique artwork and antiques you will find as you make your way through the interior. We loved taking our time going from room to room and admiring each of the beautiful pieces on display.

275 Maine - Farm to Table Dining at Its Finest

A stay at the Pitcher Inn or a day trip visit to Warren needs to include dinner at 275 Main, the on-site farm to table restaurant at the inn, open to both guests and visitors. It was a beautiful night and we enjoyed our dinner out on the covered terrace. The menu is inspired by seasonally available local produce and features items sourced directly from local farms.

We started with a beautiful cheese and charcuterie board along with a local greens salad, featuring a strawberry balsamic vinaigrette. We also received complimentary gazpacho and homemade bread. For our main courses, I chose the wild chanterelle agnolotti, (which was one of the best dishes I have ever had) and my husband chose the roasted chicken breast.

For the finale, we tried the triple chocolate mousse for dessert along with the raspberry and white chocolate cake. We also received a beautiful dessert sampler with shortbread cookies, mint macarons, and two small squares that tasted like apple pie filling. It was the most perfect dinner and easily one of the best meals we have ever had.

Tracks Pub

If you’re in the mood for more casual fare with a side of cozy mountain chalet vibes, check out Tracks Pub located downstairs from 275 Main. It’s also a perfect spot for a cozy nightcap. I loved the vibes here and what made this spot really unique were the animal tracks embedded into the floor. Tracks also offers outside patio brookside dining.

The Wine Cellar

Located next to Tracks is the most incredible wine cellar that contains over a thousand bottles of unique wines. There is also a beautiful dining space which can be reserved for a private dinner or function. After seeing this amazing room, a dinner in the wine cellar is now on my bucket list.

The Spa

Located just across the street from the main inn is the spa building. If you are looking to relax and unwind, I recommend booking a massage appointment. I enjoyed a lovely 60 minute massage before dinner and it was such a nice addition to my relaxing Vermont getaway.

A huge THANK YOU to The Pitcher Inn for hosting us! We loved our time here and cannot wait to return.
